Recently I read some news about one of our superheros. A check that was worth several hundred US dollars and was written in the 1970's to pay for the image and copyrights of "Superman" and other creative works by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, recently went on online auction and was sold for US$160,000. Can you guess how much the copyright for Superman was? The answer is US$130. This check truly is proof of the US origins of the superhero culture.
I suddenly recalled the time when I received my first paycheck from my very first job. Back then the price for selling any copyright to "Detective Comics" (later renamed DC Comics), was only US$130.
